April 24, 2007 - Earth Day Wrap-up
Relocalize Sacramento! had a successful Earth Day. In fact we left a little early after handing out nearly all of our flyers. We also gave away over 100 flower seed packets and all of our tomato and strawberry starter plants. Alas, no one took the Cardoon plants, but the full size leaves definitely brought lots of questions from people.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by the table and good luck to those who took plants and seeds, happy growing.
RS! would also like to thank ECOS for organizing this year's Earth Day, CSUS for hosting the event, and all of the sponsers.
April 22, 2007 - Earth Day
Relocalize Sacramento! will be tabling during Earth Day this coming April 22nd at California State University Sacramento (CSUS). Drop by to:
- Pick up sustainability literature.
- Talk to RS! members.
- Free fruit and veggie starts; and also flower seeds (supplies limited; first come, first serve).
April 3, 2007 - Front Yard Garden Success!
Working with local citizens and organizations RS!, helped to convince the Sacramento City Council that restricting fruits and vegetables to 30% of front yards defeats the City's sustainability goals.
With a vote of 7 to 1, the Council decided to remove subsection 'c' of the proposed new landscaping ordinance which would have placed the restriction. Now, as long as people keep their gardens up and maintain good visibility at driveways, there are no restrictions on the growing of fruits and vegetables in the front yard.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make this happen.
